Ilana Fonariov immigrated to Canada at a young age. Change and movement were constants in her life until she found clay in 2015 — which pulled her from a social work career trajectory and eventually settled her on Galiano Island. There she apprenticed with ceramicist Sandra Dolph, built a home studio, and committed herself fully to ceramics in 2021. In 2022 she received the Micki Mackenzie Craft Bursary to attend the Kootenay School of the Arts, where she formalized and deepened a practice that had been largely self-taught.
